Elaine Hanson

Elaine Marie (Johnson) Hanson, age 93, of Duluth, MN passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at Solvay Hospice Home. Elaine was born on February 17th, 1926 to Axel E. and Lillian Johnson in Duluth, MN. She graduated from Duluth Central High School and the University of MN School of Nursing. She worked for the American Red Cross in Minneapolis and at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth until she retired in 1988. Elaine married the love of her life, George R. Hanson on April 14th, 1951. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Duluth Women’s Club, Y-Wives, SMDC Auxiliary, Lakeside AARP and volunteered at the Damiano Center. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Whether playing bridge, walking the Miller Hill Mall or simply enjoying a women’s lunch, Elaine loved a busy social life. Always sharing stories, she could strike up a long conversation with anyone. Elaine was happiest floating on the pontoon on Pequaywan Lake with her family or petting any dog that would come her way. After selling her home of 48 years on Pitt St. Elaine lived at The Pines where she made many great memories with wonderful friends.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 50 years, George, and their son Douglas.

She is survived by her loving children Allan (Peggy) of Duluth, Dave (Paula) of Rochester, MN and Ann (Rich) Cutts of Duluth. 9 grandchildren, Katie (Jon) Blomberg, Julie (Adam) Zimny, Lindsey (Ryan) Seipp, Courtney (Drew) Ziller, Adam, Matthew and Jenna Hanson, Tiffany (Don) Mangold and Elizabeth Hanson and 9 great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the caring staff at Marywood and Solvay Hospice House.

Visitation will be held on Friday December 27, 2019 from 10:00AM until the 11:00AM funeral service at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1325 N. 45th Avenue E. Duluth, MN 55804. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. 2nd.
