Eleanor Margaret McNamara, 93, our wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died on Monday, December 29, 2014 in Steamboat Springs, CO, where she resided for the last five years.
Eleanor was born to Lyle and Ethel (neAC. Sweeney) Watt on August 20, 1921 in St. Paul, MN. She moved to Duluth, MN in 1939 where she resided for over 60 years. She married John "Jack" McNamara on April 21, 1943. Together they raised seven children in their home on Melrose Ave.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; her husband "Jack", brothers, Thomas and Lyle Watt, sister Shirley Pillsbury and Jean Stranik, grandson Darby McNamara and great-grandson Dylan Quinn.
She is survived by daughters, Susan and Jean McNamara both of Duluth, MN, Peggy Bevan (Bob) of Burnsville, MN. Sons, John (Sue) of Eagan, MN, Mike (Betsy) of Duluth, MN, Thomas of Apple Valley, MN, Kevin (Bridget) of Steamboat Springs, CO, sisters, Lois Nelson of Duluth, MN and Rosemary (Russ) Clouse of Loveland, CO and brother in law, Dick Stranik of Deep Haven, MN. She had 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held at the Dougherty Funeral Home on Thursday, January 8, 2015 from 5-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. John's Church, 1 W Chisholm St. Duluth, MN on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 11:00am. Following the service Eleanor will be interned next to her husband at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E 2nd St. Duluth, (218) 727-3555.
