Elizabeth Chesney

Elizabeth "Betty" Nelson Chesney, 89 formerly of Woodland Ave. died Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Marywood Assisted Living. Betty was born May 8, 1926 in Duluth to Emil and Estella Nelson. She graduated from Duluth Cathedral High School. She met and Married Mike Chesney on June 5, 1944.
Betty worked at First American Bank, Duluth Board of Education, First United Methodist Church and the University of Minnesota. She was a longtime member of St. John's Church and sang in its choir for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil, Estella; and her husband, Mike in 2013.
Betty is survived by her son, Doug (Mary) Chesney of Arlington, WA; daughter, Nancy (Mick) E. Chesney of Columbia Heights, MN; grandchildren, Brian (Beth) Chesney, great grandson, Gabriel, Joe (Melanie) Chesney all of of Alexandria, VA and Tom Chesney of Redmond, WA.
The family would like to thank the staff of CliffRock at Marywood for the kind, compassionate, and loving care they provided Betty over this past year. They also want to recognize Tina Solem, Betty's longtime companion and true friend for all she did for both Betty and Betty's late husband Mike.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 22, 2015 from 5-7pm with a rosary recitation at 6:30pm in the Dougherty Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Thursday from 10am to the 11am Mass of Christian Burial at St. John's Church, 3 W Chisholm St. Duluth. Burial will follow at the Polish Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are preferred and may be directed to St. John's School, 1 W Chisholm St. Duluth, MN.
