Elizabeth Joy Parks, 77, of Duluth, died, Friday, March 2, 2012 in St. Lukes Hospital Hospice Unit. She was born on April 10, 1934 to Roger and Mary (Thompson) Parks in Duluth. Elizabeth was a lifelong Duluth resident. Following her formal education at St. Scholastica College, she was employed as an elementary teacher in the Duluth School District until her retirement. Elizabeth was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church and formerly played the organ for church services. Her hobbies included gardening, cross country skiing and enjoying her cabin north of Two Harbors with friends and family whenever she could. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Edward Pierce and nephew, Richard Pierce. Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Joseph (Sharon) Pierce of Louisburg, N.C., Diane (Frank) Longo of Dandridge, Tenn., Sharon (Robert) Schwartz of Toledo, Ohio, Edward (Andrea) Pierce of Elyria, Ohio, Daniel (Dana) Pierce of Sarasota, Fla.; great niece and nephews, Julie Schneider of Dickinson, N.D., Michael Pierce of Dickinson, N.D., and Jonathan Pierce of Gladstone, N.D. and many other great nieces and nephews. VISITATION: 5-7 p.m. with Wake Prayers at 5 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2012 in Dougherty Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will continue Saturday from 11 a.m. to the 12 noon Mass of Christian Burial in St. Michaels Church, 4901 E Superior St. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
