Ella "Cooky" Dickenson

Ella “Cooky” Marie Dickenson, Waabijiizi Ma’iingan Ikwe “Grey Wolf Woman”, Eagle Clan of Red Lake, age 70, from Duluth, MN, began her spirit journey May 17^th, 2024. Ella was born in Red Lake, MN on April 24^th, 1954, to Charles and Ella (Anderson) Dickenson.

Cooky was born and raised in Red Lake, MN, where she and her family moved to Duluth and called it home when she was young. She was the youngest of 11 children.

Cooky was a very bright soul, she had an enormous caring and giving spirit. She was a doting sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was very creative, with a passion for cooking, sewing, beading, and her culture. She loved her rings and her many beaded earrings. She was the person who made sure you knew you were loved on your special day, doing what she could to not miss a birthday, graduation, or special occasion. She did what she could to be present for everyone. Cooky was there with open arms, open heart, and an open door whenever someone was in need. She enjoyed nature, picking agates down by the lake, going to Powwows and ceremonies, classic cars, and going to the casino.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ella Dickenson; daughters, Claurice and Winona Dickenson; siblings, Frank, James, David, Charles, and Sue Dickenson, Margaret Eckmark, Charlotte Wise, and Marlene Saukko.

Cooky is survived by her brother, Joseph Dickenson of Blaine, MN; children, Lain Dickenson, Joella Tucker, Alicia Zimmer, and Stefanie Butenhoff all of Duluth, MN; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will begin at 10 am at Dougherty Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 21^st, 2024. Funeral service to follow at 11:30 with elder Ricky DeFoe officiating. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Duluth.
