The eternal garden gate opened for Ernestine C. Ziebarth, of Duluth, Friday September 12, 2014 while surrounded by her family. She was born in Crowley, CO. to Natividad and Eladia Castillo. The family wishes to give a special thank you to St. Luke's ICU, Hospice and Chaplaincy for the kind and compassionate care Ernestine received.
Early in Ernestine's work career she was employed at the London house where she met and married her soul mate, William Ziebarth. From there she entered into the field of banking holding her first position at Northern City National Bank. In her time at Northern City National Bank she held the positions of manager of the branch bank located on Lake Ave and 1st Street, installment loan officer at the main facility, manager of the branch bank located on Kenwood Ave and Arrowhead Road. She was then promoted to the assistant vice president and personal banking manager, and was instrumental in setting up the private banking area at U.S. Bank. She retired from U.S. Bank in 1996 from private banking. Early in her retirement she was recruited to help open and manage the Park State Bank located at 27th Ave W and Superior St, held that position until 1999.
Ernestine belonged to several boards and organization over the years. Those include member of the Business and Professional Women group, member of the American Business Women's Association, board member (treasurer) for the Corporate Volunteer Council (Paint-A-Thon), served on the board (treasurer) for the Lincoln Park Business Group, involved with the Lincoln Park Neighborhood Clean Up Day, instructed students from Lincoln Park Grade School how to open and deposit money into savings accounts, member of Duluth Preservation Alliance, member of St. Lawrence Church and served for 2 years on the financial council, and lastly served as a board member of the Storefront Loan Committee for the city of Duluth.
Ernestine enjoyed gardening, traveling, going to various music shows where her love of dancing could be used. La Familia, the Family, was very dear to Ernestine's heart. Her advice and guidance will be missed. As will her grace, spirit and beautiful presence.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Jaysen Thompson, and her first husband Buster E. Thompson.
She is survived by her husband William Ziebarth, children Jean (Richard) Dembroski, and Randy Thompson, grandchildren Jada (Jason) Sheetz, Jory Lund, Justin Thompson, Ashley Dembroski, Jesse and Cole Thompson, great-grandsons Talan and Trayson Sheetz.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday September 16, 2014 from 5PM to 7PM, with 6:30PM Wake Prayers in Dougherty Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 10AM until the 11AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 2410 Morris Thomas Rd. Duluth, MN. Burial will be in Oneota Cemetery.
