Ethel Matschulat

September 16, 1920 — November 21, 2017

Ethel “Bunny” Matschulat, 97, found peace after a brief illness on November 21, 2017.  Bunny was born September 16,1920, in Winnipeg, Canada to the late Hedley and Lillian Bunyan. She was the dearly beloved wife of Walter for 68 years, until his death in 2011. Bunny and Wally were friends since the second grade when they had to stay after school for a “ruler fight” and they continued their relationship to become life-long soul mates. Bunny was the loving mother of James (Mabel) Matschulat of Lyme, CT, Gayle (Al) Kryger of Cortland, New York, Lynda (Paul Glass) Dahlke of Pewaukee, WI, and Debbie (Tom) Malloy of Duluth, MN. Bunny was the loving “Nana” of Jaime (Geoff) Mason of West Newton, MA, Tracie (Andy) Szozda of Evanston, IL, James S. Matschulat of Lyme,CT, T.W. (Rebecca) Malloy of Wauwatosa, WI, Jerry (Karin Haas) Malloy of St. Paul, MN, Nick (Margaret) Malloy of Chicago, IL, Christopher Malloy of Santa Barbara, CA, and Jessica Malloy of Duluth, MN. She is further survived by her great-grandchildren, Alice, Clara and Emmett Mason of West Newton, MA, James Malloy of Chicago, IL, and Thomas Walter Malloy of Wauwatosa, WI. Bunny is also lovingly remembered by friends, relatives and many others.

Bunny attended Riverside High School and graduated in 1939. She then attended Milwaukee Lutheran School of Nursing and enjoyed her nursing career for many years. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, fishing, swimming, dancing, travel and golf. Bunny and Wally were active members of Merrill Hills Country Club for many years. She was an avid Badger and Packers fan. Blessed with boundless energy and an infectious joy for life, Bunny was first and foremost a devoted wife, a loving mother and an amazing Nana who centered her life on faith and family.

A small family service will be held in Duluth, Minnesota.

In celebration of Bunny’s life, we ask that you joyfully celebrate the gift of your own family. Memorials can be directed to the American Cancer Society.  Her smile, caring touch and love will be with us forever. May she now rest in God’s loving care.  Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. 2nd St. Duluth, MN 55805.  218-727-3555.
