Eugene Wallace Simon, 86, previously from Grandview, MO, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home, Union Grove, Wisconsin. He was born on April 13, 1931 and raised on the family farm in rural northern Minnesota outside the town of Meadowlands. Eugene was a Korean War veteran and upon discharge, he attended the University of Minnesota (Duluth) and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree. After graduation, he worked a number of jobs, most of which were in the Kansas City, MO metropolitan area. For the last 13 years of his working life, he worked in the credit collections field as a supervisor. Eugene was an active member in several social clubs in the Kansas City area, enjoyed working on family genealogy, loved to play cards with friends, and enjoyed symphony music and attending concerts.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Effie Simon, sister Georgia Simon, and brothers Kenneth (Helen) and Donald. He is survived by a nephew Richard (Janet) Simon of Bristol, Wisconsin.
Visitation will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Meadowlands, MN from 9:00 – 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 26, 2017 with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 A.M. Burial will be at Meadowlands Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Kral-Matha-Peterson VFW Post 3044. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, Duluth, 218-727-3555.
