Fayth Glass

Fayth Glass, of Occidental Blvd. died Monday, Dec. 2, 2013 at Solvay Hospice House, with her family by her side after a three year battle with ovarian cancer. Fayth was born in Duluth to Kenneth and Violet Carlson. She graduated from Duluth Central High School and trained as a dental assistant. She had worked as a purchasing Agent for Twin Ports Sales until her marriage then worked as a dental assistant at the UM Dental School High Speed Clinic training dental students how to work with assistants. Fayth started a new career at the UM as a professional homemaker; she started a daycare for grad students' children and enjoyed meeting families from many countries and caring for their children.
In 1953, Fayth's family moved to Park Point where she was active in St. Andrews By-the Lake Church, Girl Scouts and Sea Scouting. Fayth met her husband Gary while skating at Lafayette Square in Dec. 1953; they were married in July of 1962. Later, when Gary's career landed them back in Duluth, Fayth joined St. Edward's Church, and then, St. Paul's Episcopal, where she was a member of the Alter Guild, Archives Committee, and served as Reception and Hospitality Chairperson for the last 30 years. Fayth was a founding member of the Lakeside/Lester Park Citizens' Patrol; was co-chair of the 1890s Classroom Museum at Old Central for seven years. She was an accomplished gourmet cook and enjoyed sharing wonderful meals with family and friends, and organizing get-togethers and reunions with many Park Point and other friends.
Fayth was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Violet; brother, Garry Carlson and nephew, Benjamin Carlson. Fayth is survived by her husband, Gary; daughter, Dawn (Ted) Buck of Park Point; son Todd (Susan) of Great Falls, VA; grandchildren Ian, Courtney, Aryana, Roxanne Buck; one new grandchild due in June, and a great grandchild due in February; sister in law, Trudy Carlson of Duluth, niece Caroline Carlson of Seattle, and many dear and beloved cousins and friends.
Fayth and her family are very thankful for her caring and very knowledgeable doctor, Steven Kuross, and for the loving, talented and dedicated nurses at Essentia Health Infusion Center, and at the Solvay Hospice House.
Visitation will be Saturday starting at 12:30 pm and continue until the 1:30 pm service at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1710 E Superior St. Duluth, Rev. Bill Van Oss officiating. Memorials are preferred and may be directed to St. Paul's Episcopal Church Reception and Hospitality or to the American Cancer Society Ovarian Cancer Research for early detection and cure.
