Fernanda "Fern" S. Cooper
Fernanda Solveig Cooper, 78, of Duluth, Minn., passed away on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015 at St. Luke's Hospital, and the gates of heaven were wide open to welcome her.
She was born in Black River Falls, WI. Fern worked at Northern City Bank and US Bank. Following retirement from the bank she became a CNA and was a caregiver to many, caring for them as if they were her own family, finally fully retiring after several years of taking care of the Sisters at Benet Hall at St. Scholastic Monastery.
Fern was a long time member of First Lutheran Church and she also attended Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
After suffering a stroke in May, 2014 she needed to have help caring for herself and moved to Diamond Willow, Lake Superior Cottage, in Proctor, Minn., where she was the life of the house for almost 10 months.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents, Erik and Frieda (Danielson) Olson; and her sisters, Carmen Olson and Darlene Straube.
She is survived by her son and his family Dano "Danny", Sue, Erik and Matthew; sisters: Beverly (Ron) Hanson and Sonja (Dennis) Pederson; special friends Jim Whitacre and Darlene Gierzak; and many other extended family members from as far as Norway.
We cannot thank the staff at Diamond Willow enough for the amazing care and love they have given Fern. And also the staff at St. Luke's Hospice and Mt. Royal Medical Clinic.
Visitation: Friends may gather on Thursday, April 9th. from 3 pm until the 5 pm memorial service at Dougherty Funeral Home. Memorial donations to Diamond Willow, St. Luke's Hospice, or to a charity of your choice are preferred. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. Second St., Duluth, 727-3555.
