Floyd H. Mattin, age 97, a long time Woodland resident, died Tuesday, November 8, 2016.  He was born May 22, 1919 in Drain, Oregon to Alma Helen (Fruehling) and Henry Lonnie Mattin.  Floyd graduated from St. Croix Falls, WI. High School.  He then attended USCA-Santa Barbara, Calif., and also Duluth Business University.

Floyd worked for U. S. Steel Great Lakes Fleet for 43 years before retiring in 1982.

He was a member of Hope United Methodist Church, a life member of Trinity Lodge # 282, a 32 degree member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Duluth, AAD Shrine and its Directors Staff and Hospital Dads, Trinity Chapter 242-Eastern Star, White Shrine of Jerusalem, Mizpah # 1, Mouper Grotto of Duluth, Moose Lodge # 1463-Two Harbors, American Legion Post # 571 (PUFL member), a charter member of U.S. Marine Museum Association, a life member of Opportunity Lodge – Jacksonville, FL, Retired Senior Volunteers program, American Marine Officers Union, and AARP.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Vivian, his sister Gladys Cunningham, and his brother Kenneth Earl Mattin.

Floyd is survived by his daughter Jane (Dale) Kempton of Duluth, a sister Arloine Miller of Superior, several nieces and nephews and cousins.

Visitation:  1 PM Monday, November 14, 2016 until the 2 PM funeral service at Hope United Methodist Church, 301 W. Saint Marie St.  Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.  Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, Duluth, 727-3555.
