Fred Nervick passed away peacefully on October 8, 2022 at the age of 86, surrounded by loved ones. Fred was pre-deceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Vija Nervick who passed away in January 2020. Fred is survived by his loving children, Chuck, Peter and Mara; and grandchildren, Nick, Mika, Ciara, Will, Jon, and Francesca.
Fred lived in Duluth, Minnesota his entire life. He was the oldest of four children. Growing up in Kenwood, Fred was devoted to his Lutheran church, ski jumping, the 4H and working towards his Eagle Scout badge. He joined the Navy after graduating from Central High School, where he met and married the love of his life, Vija Putnins.
Fred was a dedicated and loving husband, committed father and grandfather, and a true family man. In addition to owning and running his successful dental laboratory, Fred devoted his time to his children and grandchildren. Fred also loved the outdoors, with frequent excursions to both the North Shore and the golf course.
Fred was a truly unique person. His constant smile, positive outlook on life, unwavering ability to overcome any health issue, and ability to laugh at anyone’s jokes will truly be missed. He was always there for his family and served as an excellent role model and inspiration. Fred even taught himself how to paint with watercolors during the pandemic. Fred was unfailingly kind and respectful of others, and it would be difficult to find anyone who thought otherwise.
The Nervick family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the medical professionals that attended to Fred from the Mayo Clinic and St. Luke’s Hospital for your skill, friendship and loving care.
