Frederick Carlson

November 28, 1947 — May 13, 2016

Frederick “Fred” J. Carlson, 68 of Island Lake, died unexpectedly on Friday, May 13, 2016 in his home. Fred was born November 28, 1947 in Duluth to Walter and Mary Carlson. He married Lynn Orrey in December of 1965. He served as a Marine in the Vietnam War, unfortunately, like many Fred felt the effects of Agent Orange the rest of his life. After the war, Fred returned to Duluth and began working as an appraiser for the City of Duluth, St. Louis county Federal and retired from St. Louis County.
Fred was a member of the VFW, American Legion, DAV, Owls Club; longtime member of the Masonic Lodge and was in the Provost Unit of the AAD Shrine. He enjoyed wintering in Nevada, traveling in the RV, fishing, riding in his pontoon and most of all spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Walter Carlson and his brother, Delbert Carlson.
Fred is survived by his wife, Lynn; sons, Daniel Dean Carlson and Howard Carlson and his daughter, Anita (Michael) Carlson-Gibson and grandchildren, Chase Carlson and Haylee, Mandi, Morgan and Hope Gibson.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7pm in the Dougherty Funeral Home, where visitation will continue Wednesday from 1pm to the 2pm services, with military honors accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard following the service. Interment will be at Oneota Cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E 2nd St. Duluth, MN (218) 727-3555.
