Gordon Hubert Butler Jr, 96, Duluth, MN, died in Duluth, Tuesday, August 15, 2017.
Born August 23, 1920 to the late Senator (Col.) Gordon H. Butler and Annabelle Dunning Butler. Gordon graduated from Central HS in 1938 and received an EE degree from Purdue in 1942. He married the late Elizabeth Jean Horstmann Butler on August 11, 1945.
As a beloved member of his family and community, Gordon included most all he met as friends and part of his extended family. He was positive, honest, principled and determined to succeed no matter how difficult the task.
Worked 30 years at GE in military aircraft electronic systems and radar development; at Ramsgate in Eveleth, MN; and owned Superior Drilling Supply Co.
He belonged to Duluth Rotary Club #25, and received the Meritorious Service award from Rotary International. He helped reorganize the Pike Lake Association, was Manager of PLAWCS and an active member in the University of Seniors at UMD.
Proceeded by his parents; his wife; his brothers, Robert D. Butler, John T. Butler, and niece Thayer A. Butler.
Survived by his children Elizabeth (Tom) Petruzzelli, NY; Deborah Butler, MA; Nancy Butler, MN; and Gordon Butler III (Wendy), MN. He has four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday August 27, 2017 from 2PM to 4PM at Dougherty Funeral Home. 600 E. 2nd St., Duluth, MN 55805. Visitation will continue Monday August 28, 2017 from 10AM until the 11AM Funeral Services at First United Methodist Church. 230 E Skyline Pky, Duluth, MN 55811.
