Obituary information for Grant Elliott Wilson

Grant Elliott Wilson, 81, of Duluth, died peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday August 14, 2014 of lung cancer. He was born in St. Paul, MN on July 3, 1933 to Roy and Helen Wilson. He moved with his family at the age of 14 to Aberdeen, SD. After graduating from Aberdeen Central High School in 1952 he entered the U.S. Air Force and served until 1956. Following his discharge he entered North Dakota State School of Science in Wahepton, ND. In 1958 he returned to Aberdeen and worked as a printer for News Printing Co. In 1964 he married his wife Joan Nikolas and they made their home in Duluth, MN, where he worked as a printer for Davidson Printing Co. for 14 years, and for Singer Assoc. for 4 years. He also worked for UMD where he retired after 17 years. Grant enjoyed UMD hockey games where he worked in the penalty box for many years. He was also an avid MN Twins fan. Grant dearly loved his two grandsons Nikolas and Devin, and he treasured the time spent with them. He especially enjoyed the many summers spent with family and friends at the family cabin on Lake Pokegama in Grand Rapids.

Grant was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Paul.

Grant is survived by his wife of 50 years Joan, son Craig (Lisa) of Duluth, grandsons Nikolas and Devin of Duluth, sister Susan (John) Swennes of Brooklyn Park, MN, brother James of Eden Prairie, MN, and his sister-in-law Connie Wilson of St. Cloud, MN.

Visitation will be held on Monday August 18, 2014 from 5PM to 7PM in Dougherty Funeral Home, and will continue on Tuesday August 19, 2014 from 10AM until the 11AM Funeral Service in the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. Burial will be in Foresthill Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home. 600 East 2nd St. Duluth, MN 55805. 218-727-3555.
