Gust Pappas

Gust J. “Gus” Pappas, 87, of Duluth, passed away on Monday December 5, 2016 in Diamond Willow, Proctor. He was born in Duluth on August 9, 1929 to James and Mary Pappas.  Gus graduated from Duluth Central High School.  He was a Korean War Army Veteran.  Gus had worked for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 1988.  He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church.  He had been inducted into the Duluth Bowling Hall of Fame.  Gus was an avid bird watcher, he enjoyed bowling, golfing, hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Peter and John.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Barbara, children Diana (Greg) McDonald of Janesville, WI, Mark (Marilyn Saker) Pappas of Ypsilanti, MI, Catherine (Art Tucker) Pappas of Philadelphia, PA, Teresa (Steve) Ogden of Cottage Grove, MN, Jim (Darla) Pappas of Duluth, and Virginia Pappas of Duluth, siblings Kiki, Nick, Theodora, Kathryn, Urania, and Christ, grandchildren Claire, Paul, and Eddie.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday December 7, 2016 in Dougherty Funeral Home from 5PM to 7PM with Wake Prayers at 6:30PM, and will continue Thursday December 8, 2016 from 10:30AM until the 11:30AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. John’s Catholic Church.  4230 St. John Ave. Duluth, MN 55803.  Military Honors will be Accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to St. John’s School 1 W.
