Gwen G. Carlson dies at 99
A resident of Duluth since before World War Two, Gwendolyn Gail Canon Carlson died on July 11 at a senior residence not far from her beloved home of sixty years on the edge of Lake Superior in Lakeside.
Throughout her life, Gwen had countless friends of all ages, was interested and involved in civic affairs and politics. She was an enthusiastic participant in UMD’s University For Seniors.
Always active, she was an avid skier and a confirmed golfer. She and her husband Rodger were members of Northland Country Club for over fifty years. Gwen and Rodger are survived by Mary and David of Duluth and Rod of New York, grandchildren Nancy of New York and Mark of Washington, D.C. and recently a great granddaughter Dale Inger Carlson. Gwen loved ideas, learning, her freedom and the spontaneity of living every day to its fullest. She will be missed and never forgotten.
Note: in lieu of a funeral, flowers or memorials, Gwen said she’d prefer that her friends enjoy some time reading or in pleasant conversation.
