Hans Woodrow Eng, 91, of Duluth passed away at his home on Dec. 31, 2016 with his daughter and his dog at his side.
Hans was born on Dec. 15, 1925 in Normanna Township, Minn to Dora and Milton Eng. He was one of seven children.
Hans attended Central High School. In 1942, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served in World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He met Lois Petersen at Bridgeman's Ice Cream Parlor in Duluth and married her on Feb. 22, 1947 in Rockford, Ill. They had four children, Linda, Douglas, Susan and David.
Hans, in his younger years, worked as a foreman at Interlake Iron and retired from Duluth Lumber Company.
His hobbies were extensive and included hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking and traveling. He volunteered at Park Hill Cemetery. He especially looked forward to his annual deer hunting trips at his Chicken Creek hunting shack with his family and friends. His carpentry talent was shown in the Pequaywan Lake cabin he built with his dad. Hans was on the first veteran Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2012. His ongoing interest in our country and his unwavering patriotism was important to him. Maggie, his German Shepherd dog, has been at his side for the past decade.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois and son, Douglas.
Hans is survived by his children, Linda Eng, David Eng, Susan and Patrick Sage; his devoted nephew, Patrick Eng; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
VISITATION: 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. celebration of life on Friday, Jan. 6, in Dougherty Funeral Chapel, with Pastor David Eaton officiating. Reception following the service.
