Harriet Nyen, 92, of Duluth, was welcomed into her eternal home in Heaven on Saturday, October 28, 2017. She was born on November 22, 1924 to Henry and Helga Thompson of Twig, Minnesota. Harriet grew up on a farm in Twig and often shared her fond memories of that part of her life. She was a longtime resident of Duluth. Harriet married Alvin Nyen on April 11, 1947. Together they raised three children. Harriet worked at a wholesale drug company before getting married, and after that was a homemaker, devoted wife and wonderful mother. She will be remembered for her homemade breads, cookies, cakes and delicious meals but above all her devotion to the Lord and her kind, loving spirit. Harriet’s hobbies included some sewing, handwork and reading. Her most read book was her bible which she read in its entirety each year. Harriet was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church for at least 55 years where she was involved in teaching Sunday School and also in music ministry. Harriet played guitar and sang, and her husband played the Mandolin. They shared their music as they visited nursing homes, the Gospel Mission and many other churches throughout the years. Harriet was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five sisters and one brother. She is survived by a daughter Patricia “Pat” (Keith) Frink of Hermantown, two sons, David of Duluth, and Jonathon “Jon” (Cathy) of Maryville, TN; seven grandchildren, Jason (Amy), Cerissa, Jacob (Chelsey), Benjamin, Linnea, Sarah and Luke; and five great-grandchildren, Christian, Jett, KJ, Kayden and Holden. VISITATION: Saturday, November 4th from 10AM until the 11AM funeral service at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1505 Eklund Avenue. Burial will be at Park Hill Cemetery.
