Harry R. Murphy (1934 – 2016)

Harry R. Murphy, 82, of Duluth, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2016 suddenly at St. Luke’s Hospital.

His family graciously thanks the staff for their support and care of our father during his last hours.

Harry was raised at St. James Orphanage in Duluth, Minn. with his two brothers, Daniel of Duluth and Michael (deceased).

Harry graduated from Cathedral High School in 1952 where he played center on the basketball team.  He went on to get his degree in Business Management at UMD.

Harry married Karla Marsh in 1956 and together they had seven children:  Robin, Harry Russel Jr. (Russ), Patrick, Erin, Molly, John and Colleen.  His children have given him 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Harry was Vice President of Human Resources at St. Mary’s Hospital, a position he served over 30 years, promoting livable wages and employee rights, and was well respected for his efforts.

Harry spent his later years “living his dream” on Island Lake, fishing, bird watching, biking and being close to nature.

He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, playing cards with his friends, and studying the bible.

He wintered at Casa Grande, AZ and enjoyed exploring the desert with his “snow bird” friends.

Harry was greatly loved and appreciated and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.  He would want to be remembered for his patience and kindness, his witty humor and for his loving nature.

Visitation:  Family and friends may gather Thursday, September 29th. from 10 am , with rosary prayers at 10:30 am, until the 11 am memorial service at Dougherty Funeral Home.  If so desired, memorials to the Salvation Army or the Union Gospel Mission are preferred by the family.  Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E.
