Helen Buchanan

Helen L. Buchanan, 97 of Duluth, died Friday, January 26, 2018 at her home, with her loving family by her side.  Helen was born November 10, 1920 in Duluth to Stanley and Birdie Tingstad.  She attended grade school in Virginia, MN, graduated with the class of 1938 from Duluth Central High School, and she went on to attend Duluth Teachers College.

Helen married Don G. Buchanan on July 24, 1942.

She enjoyed home making, sewing, making dolls, music, singing, directing, accompanying in a choir.  Helen and Don spent many winters motor homing all over the US, summers in Canada, and spending ten winters in Mission Texas.

When Helen was fourteen, she had a wonderful experience of salvation at Camp Seagle near Biwabik, MN.  She was always thankful to Jesus Christ for saving her soul.  She felt His “keeping Grace” throughout her entire life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Birdie; her husband, Donald, and their son, Tom.

Helen is survived by her children, John (Jenn), Gerald (Anna), Bill,  Peter, Marie (Paul) Gagne and Louise (Neal) Larsen; her sister, Delores (Don) Kallberg; grandchildren, Kris, John, Michael, Amy, Emily, Lisa, Lorranda, Donald, Gwen, Harold, Gretchen, Josh, Andy, Ben, Elizabeth, David, Mike, Dan, Tim, Angela, Adam, Aaron, and Sarah; great grandchildren, Rachel, Kyle, Callista, Teddy, Josephine, Anthony, Ethan, Aaron, Max, Olivia, Logan, Jenna, Maddy, Lilly, Caden, Liam, Everett, Starla, Caleb, Sariana, Mandalyn, Amariah, Ezra, Owen, Mikaela, Colton, Will, Henry, Elias, Norah, Hazel, Luke, Natalie, Noah, Jack, and Ryan.

Visitation will be Friday, February 2, 2018, from 6-8pm at Hermantown Community Church, 4880 Maple Grove Rd., Hermantown, MN , where visitation will continue Saturday from 10am to the 11am services.  Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E 2 ^nd St. Duluth, MN  55805, (218) 727-3555 .
