Helen Cecelia Franckowiak, age 100, of Gnesen, died Friday, August 25, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital. A lifelong Duluth resident she was born April 23, 1917 to Joseph and Mary (Adamczewski) Wengrin. She married Joseph Franckowiak on October 14, 1944. Helen was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Gnesen and its rosary society. Helen enjoyed Bingo and bazaars, gardening, baking her famous cinnamon rolls and homemade bread, crocheting and spending time with her grandsons. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, three brothers and her husband Joe in 2006. Helen is survived by her son Raymond (Marie) of Duluth; grandsons: Michael, Mark (Laura) and Matthew (Christie); her brother Edward Wengrin and numerous nieces and nephews. Helen’s family would like to thank all the staff at Golden Oaks, Hermantown, for their care and friendship given to Helen, and to Dr. McLean and the nurses at St. Luke’s and St. Luke’s Hospice Care. Visitation: 5-7 PM today (Monday) with rosary prayers at 7 PM at Dougherty Funeral Home. Visitation continues Tuesday from 10 a.m until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Gnesen. Memorials directed to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church would be appreciated.
