Hendrick James Hanson was born on September 14th, 2024, at 23 weeks gestation and passed away on October 19th, 2024.
Hendrick’s final day was spent getting snuggles from mom and dad and ended passing in his mothers arms as he ascended to Heaven. He fought hard but his little lungs were not developed enough and they were not able to overcome their illness. He gave it all he had, right down to his last heartbeat. We had miracles that gave us an extra week with him and we were blessed to have that added time with him. It was hard to realize at the time but it was a privilege being with him as he crossed the bridge from our world to Heaven. From his blonde hair, his little hands that he loved to grab our fingers with, to his wiggly little legs. Oh and we can't forget those ears he would wiggle on demand or when he had the hiccups! You were the sweetest little boy we could've ever asked for. May you spend your days watching us grow, Watch over us in our times of need and enjoy every day you spend in Heaven.
Hendrick is survived by his loving parents, Patrick and Myranda Hanson; his sisters, Josephine and Penelope; and his brother, Maverick. His grandparents, Rick and Tammy Hanson, Tim Zahler, Sherry Mallon and Kevin Shanda. Aunts and uncles: Shannon Clark, Becky(Mike) Nickila, Dave (Kasey) Hanson, Jessica (Aaran) Myhrer, Gary (Casey) Davis, Lucas (Lacie) Papesh, Cody Papesh, Ashley Oglesby. Cousins: Chearrie, Cody, Nevada, Axton, Jackson, Aubree, Oakley, Olivia, Stella, Khloe, Ariana, Anders, Earle, Clara, Everett, Gannon, Grayson, and Finley. He was preceded in death by his great grandparents: Orville and Lois Hanson, Ron and Kathryn Wrazidlo, James and Linda Mallon, John and Patty Zahler, Great Uncle Harold Martin, and Cousin Joseph Lofald.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on October 24, 2024, at St. Benedict's Church, 1419 St. Benedict St., Duluth, MN. Visitation will be at 1:30 p.m. until the 2:30 p.m. Mass. After Mass, we will proceed to his burial at Calvary Cemetery and then return to St. Benedict’s for dinner in Hendrick’s honor.
Though Hendrick’s time with us was short, it will forever live in our hearts. We owe every moment of it to the exceptionally proficient and highly specialized doctors and nurses at Essentia Health's NICU department, who never gave up hope on Hendrick. We are confident they did everything within their power to save Hendrick’s life. We would also like to give special thanks to Dr. Kassing and his team in the birthplace for their swift action and their expertise. Their confidence under the pressure of an emergency C-section was vital in ensuring the survival of both Hendrick and Myranda. The Lord did all he could for Hendrick before bringing him home. Thank you everyone who prayed for Hendrick and our family in our time of need, to all who took care of our three other children so we could be with Hendrick, and all who went out of their way to help us in that chaotic time of our lives.
