Hugo Earl Leider was born June 1st, 1931, in Wells, MN to Frederick and Ellen Leider. He graduated from Wells High school in 1950 earning 14 letters for participating in football, baseball, basketball and track. He attended River Falls State College and Dunwoody Institute. He was drafted into the Marine Corp in Feb 1952. He served in San Diego and San Francisco CA until 1954 working as an instructor to radio operator students preparing for Field Maintenance. He returned to Dunwoody and graduated from the Electrical Construction & Maintenance program in 1956. He worked for Westinghouse Elec. Corp and later with WESCO as a branch Manager in Mpls. He was united in marriage to Helen Marie O’Neill from rural LeSueur, MN July 28th, 1956. Helen and Hugo were blessed with 7 children and 64 years of marriage. He and his family moved to Duluth in 1972 where he became Branch Manager with WESCO until he retired in July of 1990. Hugo was an avid bowler, golfer, and enjoyed spending hours in his workshop making picture frames and furniture. He cherished time spent at his hunting cabin in the woods with his children and grandchildren over many years. Hugo was received into the Lord’s heavenly Kingdom on July 17th at home surrounded by his loving family. He is cherished and will be deeply missed by his wife Helen, his children Laurie (Pat) Louwagie, Kerry (Kirstin) Leider, Tom (Cindy) Leider, Pat (Claudia) Leider, Rick Leider (Chireen O’Connell), Anne Snyder (Jon Loye), Emey (Gerry) Vaillancourt, 21 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, brother’s Don Leider, Fred (Jaci) Leider and sister Diane (Ron) Feist, sister-in-law’s Muriel O’Neill, Josie O’Neill, Carol Waters, Kay (Jim) Bratsch, many nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Mary Ellen, sister-in-law Yvonne Leider and his dear O’Neill in-laws. There will be a gathering of friends and family at 10:00 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 on July 21, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 151 West Linden Duluth, MN. A lunch will follow. Hugo will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery, Duluth. The Duluth Combined Honor Guard firing squad will give a last volley and close the service with the sounding of Taps. The service will be live streamed on Dougherty Funeral Home’s Facebook page starting 5 minutes before the service starts. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Solvay Hospice House and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Duluth. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E 2nd, Duluth, MN 218-727-3555.
