Irene Ellen (Bowdery) Maio, 94, of Duluth, passed away peacefully in her home Wednesday, June 23, 2021. She was born in London, England on October 19, 1926, an only child to William and Ellen Bowdery. She met and married Joseph Maio on August 18, 1945, in London, England during WWII. The two moved to Duluth in 1946. She made many trips back to England and New York with her good friend Mary Carlson.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. She was active in PTA, Girl Scouts, The Rainbow Club, Tran-Atlantic War Brides Club, Italian American Auxiliary, and her number one activity playing BRIDGE.
She was a feisty true Brit. until the end, and will be missed by many.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Irene is survived by daughter, Patricia (Bruce) Vik; son, Stephen (Deborah) Maio; granddaughter, Jennifer Vik, Stephanie (Todd) Kantola; step-grandson, Kyle Saari; 4 great- grandsons; special friend, Frank Abbott; and special goddaughter, Debrah LaBarre.
Memorials to Lighthouse Center for Vision Loss preferred.
Funeral service will be 11AM, Tuesday, June 29, 2021, with visitation one-hour prior in Williams Lobermeier Boettcher Funeral Home, 3208 W 3rd street, Duluth, MN 55806. Burial will be in Oneota Cemetery.
