Irene A. Ylinen

July 22, 1915 — March 30, 2017

Irene A. Ylinen, 102, of Duluth, passed away peacefully with family by her side March 30, 2017.

Irene was born in Sauk Center, MN, on July 22, 1915, to Gunder and Anna Jensen.  Irene grew up and graduated high school in Brainerd, MN.  She then moved to Duluth, worked for the railroad, and met her husband Ivan.  They were married June 1939, and remained in Duluth to raise their family.

Irene was a very active member of St John’s Evangelist Church in Woodland, a proud “lunch lady” and belonged to the church choir.  In the early 50s she was politically active with her mother-in-law Martha Ylinen. Irene enjoyed her card club, family and friends, sewing, crocheting, gardening, and baking. She also belonged to the 55 Club and the Rosary Society.

She was preceded in death by parents; husband, Ivan; daughter, Judith Knuckey; brothers, Arnold, Franklin, Edward, Walter, Richard; and sister, Evelyn.

Irene is survived by her children, Mary Forgacs, Michael (Karen), Colleen (John) Economos; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; numerous, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

The family would like to thank Keystone Bluffs, Diamond Willow Assisted Living, and St Croix Hospice for their compassionate care of Irene.

In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11AM, Wednesday, April 5, 2017, with visitation one- hour prior at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 4230 St. John's Ave Duluth, MN 55803.
