James Stanley Kwapick "Jimmie", age 76 of Duluth, went home in comfort on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at St. Luke's Hospice, Duluth, Minnesota.
James was born on November 28, 1935 in Duluth, Minnesota, the son of Stanley and Pauline (Soltz) Kwapick. He was a 1954 graduate of Duluth Central High School. Jimmie was honorably discharged from the United States Army on October 31, 1962. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 1990 after 32 years of mail delivery.
He was a longtime member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church where he enjoyed helping with the annual pancake breakfast. He was also a member of Kostka Society. Jimmie was a Past President and member of the Eagles Club, American Legion, and the Duluth Superior Harbormasters Barbershop Singers.
Jimmie thoroughly enjoyed life and spending time with his many friends from Woodland, 4th St, West End, Grand Rapids, MN and wherever he traveled.
He was preceded in death by parents, Stanley and Pauline Kwapick, Bob Frick, special friend, Adelle Buck and son Tony Barbacovi.
He is survived by his son Greg Barbacovi of Santa Clarita, CA, and daughter, Cathy Matthys of Palmdale, CA.
Jimmie's gentle spirit, endless humor and infectious smile will be missed by his second family, Joann Frick, Paul (Sherry) Frick, their daughter Lyssie, all of Grand Rapids, MN, his cousin Kim Pucuski-Gressman, her husband Rick Gressman, special friend and neighbor Ken Olson, best buddy Jim Petitt, his wife Diane, and numerous friends throughout the area.
We would like to thank the dedicated, supportive and caring staff at St. Luke's Hospice for the outstanding care and concern given to Jimmie during his final days.
Visitation: 10 am Friday, November 2, 2012 until the 11 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 325 East 3rd St., Duluth. Burial at Polish Catholic Cemetery, Duluth. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home (218) 727-3555.
