Janice Baird

Age 92 of East First Street, Duluth, MN died Friday, January 14, 2022 in the Essentia Miller Dwan Hospice Unit. She was born to Lawrence and Inga (Hagen) Kuss in Chippewa Falls, WI on October 20, 1929. She moved to Duluth after graduation and worked at the Miller Dwan hospital. She was united in marriage with James C. Baird February 6th 1950.  She was a stay at home mom did work part time at the Duluth Glass Block Store, J.C. Penney’s and had a house cleaning business for many years. She was a 63 year member of Kenwood Lutheran Church where she served on many committees. Church was a very important part of her life.

She was a caring and giving person. Always willing to sacrifice and help anyone in need. She loved her family and was a good mother, Nana and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; and sister, Lois Gunderson.

Survived by her sisters, Joyce Grant, Sandy, UT, Mary (Lynn) Witt, Cashton WI, Dianne (Thomas) Kurth, Fall Creek, WI, and Ruth (William) Straley, Helena, MT; brother, Frederick (Roxy) Kuss, Chippewa Falls, WI; children, James (Linda) Baird, Flower Mound, TX, Jean (Jeffery) Hanson, Duluth, MN, Jacqueline (Daniel) Thompson, Onalaska, WI, and Terry Baird, Duluth, MN; grandsons, Timothy Hanson, Maple Grove, MN, Taylor Baird, Foxboro, WI; great granddaughter, Alexandra J Peterson-Hanson, Virginia, MN; step-son, Lee H. Gibson, Denver, CO; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

She is so loved and will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank the Essentia Health medical staff for the care and compassion given to her.

A private family service will be held in the spring.
