Jean Marie Hinzmann, 92 of Duluth died March 5th 2021 at the home of John and Nancy Jean Hinzmann with her family by her side. Jean was born February 13, 1929 in Green Bay, Wisconsin to Elmer and Mary Andre. She graduated High School from St. Joseph’s Academy and completed training for nursing at Mercy Hospital in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, becoming a Registered Nurse.
Jean met John Hinzmann, Sr. and they were married on September 15th, 1951.
Jean worked as a Registered Nurse at Waukesha Hospital in Waukesha Wisconsin, St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, and Lakeshore Lutheran Home in Duluth. Jean was active volunteering in the community at St. Michael’s Church, Lakeside Garden Club, and Lakeshore Lutheran Home.
Jean was preceded in her death by her parents, Elmer and Mary, siblings Elaine and Elmer, her daughter Andrea in 1960, and her husband John in 2008.
Jean is survived by her children, John Jr. (Nancy Jean), and their children John III (Mary) Hinzmann, Daniel (Donalda) Hinzmann, and Amy (Jon) Hinzmann Clark; Therese (Keith) Bower and their children Owen (Kellie) Bower, Paul (Carly) Bower, Mary (Ryan) Bower Gauger, Andrea Bower; Lynn Hinzmann and her children, Emily (Clay) Diette, Ehren (Mary) Bittner, Katie Bittner, Allison (Matt) Sobczak, and Ben (Joy) Bittner; Janice (Don) Dougherty and their children, Andy (Kim) Dougherty, Matt (Nicole) Dougherty, and Christian (Megan) Dougherty; Mary (Bob) Jensen and their children, Bobby (Gina) Jensen and Anne (Jeff) Groos; Anne (Ray) Burchett and their children, William, Jack, Noelle, Mary Claire, Grace, Thomas, and Joseph Burchett; Mark (Kerin) Hinzmann and their children Alice and Sam Hinzmann; 23 great grandchildren; her sister Alice Mielke of Green Bay and several nieces and nephews.
The Family would like to thank the staff at St. Luke’s Home Health Care and St Luke’s Hospice for their loving care of Jean. The family also wants to thank the Gnesen First Responders.
Visitation will be 5-7PM with Wake Prayers at 6:30, Wednesday, March 17, 2021, in the Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E 2nd Street, Duluth, MN, visitation will continue Thursday, March 18th from 10AM until the 11AM Mass of Christian Burial at St Michael’s Catholic Church, 4901 E Superior St, Duluth, MN.
