Jeanne H. (Burger) Rose, 94 of Duluth, died Monday, June 8th in Solvay Hospice House with her loving family by her side. Jeanne was born February 6th, 1926, in Duluth to Pius and Emily (Neutzling) Burger. She grew up in Duluth and was a 1943 graduate of Duluth Cathedral High School. She worked for MP&L until she married Donald Rose on September 10th, 1949. They raised 7 children in the Kenwood and Duluth Heights area. In recent years Jeanne lived at the Primrose Retirement Community and then with family. She was a charter member of St. Benedict’s Church and was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Duluth Heights. Jeanne was very competitive and loved playing card games, Scrabble, Chinese checkers and she could beat anyone at ping pong and horseshoes. She was a swimmer all of her life and loved her childhood summers at Grand Lake and her adult years at our cabin on Island Lake. She loved swimming at the Miller Dwan Fitness center and formed many friendships in the group known as the “The Mermaids.” Mom had a beautiful voice and sang at weddings in her younger years. You could always hear Mom saying, “Hey, I’ll split a beer with ya” or “Are you hungry?”
Most of all, our Mom put her family first and foremost. She was our Angel on Earth and now our Angel in Heaven.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald, parents Pius and Emily, siblings, Katherine Stonich, William, Floyd and Richard Burger.
Jeanne is survived by her children, Donna Jean Montalvo, Martin (Brenda) Rose, Thomas (Marlene) Rose, Patricia Rose, Catherine (Jeff) Purcell, Andrew (Lisa Askelson) Rose and Virginia (David) Churchill; grandchildren, Maria (Brian) Satterwhite, Carlos (Samantha) Montalvo, Nathan (Kristy Marken) Rose, Mathew (Melissa) Rose, Jenny Rose, Erin and Emily Purcell, Katie (Lucas Koski) Purcell, Jessica (Zachary) Nelson, Erica and Benjamin Churchill and Taylor (John Howard) Fanning; great grandchildren, Holden and Maxwell Satterwhite, Nathan Jr. and Noah Rose, Stella and Henry Rose, Clark Koski and Zarria Howard and also Sister-in-law Barbara Burger.
The family of Jeanne Rose would like to thank all of the amazing nurses at Solvay Hospice House for the compassionate and loving care they gave our beloved Mother and Grandma.
