Jeffery Borndal (68) of Hermantown, passed away surrounded by family on Thursday, October 20th due to complications of a stroke. Jeff was born February 25, 1954 in Tacoma, Washington to David and Eileen (Nettekoven) Borndal. He grew up on many Air Force bases throughout the US until the family landed in Hermantown in 1963. Jeff graduated from Hermantown High School in 1972 where he excelled at football, basketball, and baseball. Recently, he was happy to reunite after 50 years with his Mesabi Range football teammates who won the MJCAA title and played in the 1972 Wool Bowl.
Jeff is preceded in death by his father David, and in-laws, Larry and Mary Feeny. He is survived by his wife of 33 years Carole (Feeny), mother Eileen, children Emily (David) Thom, Brianna (Chris) Stevens, Jacob (Kate) Borndal, and Lauren Borndal, along with grandchildren Chloe (Zack), Rowan, Griffin, Ollie, Harper and Valentina. Jeff is also survived by siblings Danny (Kym) Borndal, Rick (Cheryl) Borndal, Nancy (Jack) Frazier, brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Jeanne Feeny, Aunt Margaret Fracassi, as well as many nieces, nephews and good friends.
Jeff was most happy while riding his motorcycle, hunting, fishing, playing with his granddogs Riggs and Dozer, relaxing at Caribou Lake or a beach in Florida, or watching his grandkids’ sporting events and activities – Grandpa Jeff was their biggest fan! Jeff enjoyed his retirement after working sales for many years. He had many great friends, but especially loved his time spent fishing and duck hunting with Rhonda, Rob, Greg, Digger, Luke, Cam and Nate (Beaux).
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 25th at Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. Second St, Duluth from 5-7 pm. A Celebration of Life is planned for Wednesday, October 26th in the Junction at the Buffalo House, 2590 Guss Road, Duluth from 11:30 – 3 pm, with time set aside for family and friends to share prayers, memories and stories at 1 pm. Memorials will be sent to organizations Jeff supported in lieu of flowers.
