Jerry S. Zeleznikar, 93 of Duluth died Friday, July 8, 2016 at Essentia St. Mary’s. Jerry was born December 23, 1922 in Ely to Jerry and Jennie Zeleznikar. He graduated from Ely High School and attended DBU. Jerry served in the Army in the Pacific Theater during WW II. After the war, Jerry returned to Minnesota and worked at National Iron as a machinist, US Steel as a chemist, three years with the Benedictine Brothers and St. louis County Health Dept., where he was a health inspector and also worked at the Senior Sanitarium in Virginia, MN.
Jerry was a member of the former Sacred Heart and St. Peter’s and a present member of St. Mary Star of the Sea, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Knights of Columbus council 447.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Jennie; sister, JoAn and brothers, William Zeleznikar and Joseph Brodnik
There are no known survivors.
Visitation will begin Friday at 9am with Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 325 E 3rd St. Duluth. Burial with military honors accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral home, Duluth, (218) 727-3555.
