Joan Barnstorf

Joan Gayle Barnstorf, 89, of Duluth, passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Essentia Health. Joan was born on August 21, 1931 in Duluth to Armas and Eva (D’Anjou) Riippa. She was a 1949 graduate of Duluth Central High School (49er’s). Joan retired from HBJ Publications. She was a former member of St. John’s Catholic Church and enjoyed gardening. Family was very important to her and she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert in 2008. Joan is survived by two daughters, Lori Barnstorf and Linda (Jim) Marnich both of Duluth; a son, Steven (Cindy) of FL; grandchildren, Joseph (Kelly) Barnstorf, John (Lauren Williams) Barnstorf, Stephanie (Ben) Grieger, Aaron Zimm, Nicole (Noah Palusky) Zimm, Daniel (Brittany Maasjo) Marnich and Michelle (Steve) Hamski; great-grandchildren, Amelia and Leo Barnstorf, Lucy and Matilda Barnstorf, Isabella, Cassandra and Sonia Grieger, Luna and Ian Williams, and brother, James Riippa. A special thank you to the 9 ^th floor Palliative Care Unit at Essentia Health and the wonderful staff at Beehive Homes. Visitation 1 pm until the 2 pm funeral service Sunday, August 8, 2021 at Dougherty Funeral Home. Rev Fr Ron Gagne officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
