Joan Sandy

Joan G. Sandy, 80, of Lester Park, died Sunday, August 24, 2014 in her home, surrounded by her family. Joan was born December 31, 1933 in Duluth to Leonard and Helen Knutsen and she was a lifelong Duluth Resident. She graduated from Denfeld in 1951 and has been an active member of the reunion committee. Joan worked at Kimberly Clark, her father's paint shop, Knutsen Painting and after the kids were in school, Liberty Mutual Ins.
She was an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and its Deborah Priscilla Woman's circle; she also loved to quilt, bake and watch hockey.
She volunteered for Meals On Wheels, the Kidney Foundation and American Diabetes Association, but most of all, grandma enjoyed anything involving her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Helen; baby sister, Helen Lenore and her brothers, Jeffrey and Gregory.
Joan is survived her children, Gail (Ram) Singh of White Bear Lake, MN, Debbie (Tom) Olson, Duluth, MN, Lynda (Rick) Reimer of Bloomington ,MN and Cheryl (Todd) Carlson of Duluth and Jon (Kelly) Sandy of Cloquet, MN; grandchildren, Kailyn Singh, Katie and Leah Olson, Danielle and Dane Drussell, Alex and Nikki Carlson, Aaron, Kaleb and Luke Sandy; brother, Warren (Barbara) Knutsen; sister in law Heidi Knutsen and many nieces and nephews and friends, she will be greatly missed.
The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Sandy Popham and the Fresenius Dialysis Center (Miller Dwan) for their loving care of our mother.
Visitation will be today from 5-7pm in the Dougherty Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Wednesday from 10am to the 11am service at the Lutheran church of the Good Shepherd, 1325 N 45th Ave. E., Duluth, MN. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E 2nd St. Duluth, (218) 7237-3555
