JoAnn Paul

JoAnn Elizabeth (Garity) Paul, 65, of Duluth died November 29, 2020, surrounded by her family. She was born October 23, 1955, in Menomonee Falls, WI to Jim and Marge Garity. She was a 1974 graduate of Menomonee Falls North High, and a 1979 graduate of University of Wisconsin-Stout. With her degree in Home Economics, she taught at Central Junior High in Superior, WI.
It was in the summer of 1981 that she met the love of her life, Mike Paul. Joyous laughter brought them together. They married in August of 1983, and made their home in Duluth, MN. Their shared laughter endured.
JoAnn brought four beautiful children into this world: Chris, Tim, Dan, Mark. She was a stay-at-home parent and loved raising her boys. Those boys became thoughtful, loving men who cared for their mom and ignited her spirit when dementia threatened it.
Being with her husband and sons, or with dear friends and family was time well spent for JoAnn. She also loved horses, skiing, cross-stitching, and giving back. She volunteered as a ski instructor at Spirit Mountain, with the Congdon Hockey Association, and at Holy Rosary School. She enjoyed her years of work as a Weight Watchers group leader.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
JoAnn is survived by her husband, Mike; her children, Chris (Allie), Tim (Amy), Dan, and Mark; her grandchildren, Payton, Evie, and Wells; her siblings, Peggy (Todd) Johnson and Jim (Jodie), and many beloved in-laws, nieces and nephews.
JoAnn received special friendship from her caregivers. They added uplift to her day and treated her with love. JoAnn’s family is endlessly grateful for their work and presence.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 2nd from 5-7pm at the Dougherty Funeral home.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 11am Thursday at the Cathedral of the Lady of the Rosary, 2801 E 4th St. Duluth, MN.  Memorials are preferred and may be directed to Chester Bowl Ski Improvement Club, 1801 E Skyline Parkway, Duluth, MN  55812 or Alzheimer’s Association, 525 S Lake Ave, Duluth, MN  55802.
