John Otto Becker, 69, of Vaux Road, died Thursday, November 16, 2017 in his residence following a battle with ALS. John was born in Duluth on March 9, 1948 to Dorothy "Dottie" (DeShaw) and Otto Becker. John served in the Army as a First Lieutenant during Vietnam and retired from Roadway Trucking in California where he was the terminal maintenance manager. John earned a Master's degree in Education from St. Scholastica and most recently, John was a substitute teacher for the parochial schools in Duluth. John was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary and the Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute in Duluth. He was an avid reader, bird and deer hunter. He enjoyed riding bicycles and was known as a "Roadie" compiling thousands of miles each year. He was preceded in death by his parents. John is survived by a daughter, Charlotte Becker, and her mother, Roni, both of Tacoma, WA; a sister, Coleen Wood of Duluth; three brothers, Daniel (Rosemary) and William, both of Duluth, and Jerry (Lisa) of Vacaville, CA; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; his partner, Michele Dressel of Duluth; and Rex, his four legged companion. The family would like to thank the Minnesota ALS Association and the Minnesota Veterans Administration for their help to John in his journey as a veteran with ALS.
Visitation 10 am until the 11 am Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, Nov 21, 2017 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, 2801 East 4th St. Fr. Peter Muhich Officiating. Burial at Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors by the Duluth Honor Guard.
