John “Jack” W. Christen, 93 of Duluth died Monday, May 16, 2016 in his home with his family by his side. Jack was born in Banff, Alberta, Canada on January 2, 1923 to Charles and Hazel Christen. Jack married Theresa L. “Tess” Lovich on August 26, 1943.
He served in the Air Force during WW II, with the 405th Fighter Group of the Ninth Air Force. They received a Presidential Citation for their outstanding performance against the enemy in France on September 24, 1944.
He worked for US Steel and also worked as a bricklayer for many years.
Jack was a “Jack of all trades”; maintaining his apartments and taking care of his love, Theresa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Hazel; son Daniel Thomas Christen and grandchildren, Scott, Kerry and James.
Jack is survived by his wife of 72 years, Theresa “Tess”; children, Patricia Seiler, John C. Christen, Steven W. Christen and David P. Christen; grandchildren, Aimee Ann (Mike) Santoriello, Daniel Thomas (Corina) Christen, Matthew, Nicholas, Aaron Christen and Kimberly, Bert and April Seiler. Great grandchildren, Lukas, Michael, Brooke, Tyler, Luke, Myah. Great great granddaughters, Addyson and Ellie and his sister, Mary Walsh.
Visitation will be Saturday beginning at 10am with services at 11am in the Dougherty Funeral Home. Burial with military honors by the Duluth Honor Guard at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E 2nd St. Duluth, MN, (218) 727-3555.
