John Henry Herrera of Duluth died July 16, 2016 at the Solvay Hospice House. He was born January 31, 1948 to Samuel and Rosabelle (Quintana) Herrera in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
John married Claudia Harteau on March 5, 1981. He was a member of the Tewa Pueblo Tribe. After he proudly served in the Navy he was an advocate for Native American Children. He had a passion for Native American History, Dance, and Native Crafts. He also enjoyed the outdoors hunting and fishing.
He preceded in death by his parents, stepson Danny and granddaughter Anna.
He is survived by his wife Claudia, Children LaNaya (Aaron) Wicklund, Rosa (Chad) Hammerlund, Bernard, Denamie, and Samuel Herrera. Grandchildren; Ashley, Cole, Sterling, Cash, Berlin, Khloe, Lincoln, Zander, MaKaylee, Journey, Lily, Jasmin, and Zayne.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1PM until the 5pm Funeral Service in the fellowship hall of Peace United Church of Christ, 1111 11th Ave. East, Duluth, MN 55805. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home. 600 E. 2nd Street, Duluth, MN 55805. 218-727-3555.
