John McLennan

July 4, 1940 — October 21, 2015

John J. McLennan, 75, died Wednesday, October 21, 2015 in St. Mary's Hospital of complications from lymphoma. Born July 4, 1940 in Superior, Wisconsin, he was the only child of John C. and Florence McLennan. John graduated from Superior Central High School in 1958. He spent two years in the Navy, graduated from Superior State with a four year business degree and was a member of the FEX fraternity during that time. He married the love of his life, Susan Johnson in Duluth on October 16, 1964. They moved to Fargo, ND in January, 1965 where John sold steel for Paper Calmenson Steel Co. of St. Paul, MN for 35 years and then Ratner Steel Co. for 11 years. They raised five children, John, Molly, Michelle, Lisa and Marc. John was very involved in all of the activities of his children and grandchildren and was so proud of all of them. He was also an avid golfer and a dear friend to many.
He and his family were members of Nativity Catholic Church in Fargo for 40 years, and he and Susan are currently members of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Duluth Heights and St. Michael Catholic Church in Iron River, WI. in the summer. He was a current member of the Knights of Columbus.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his son John and daughter Michelle, both in 1997. He is survived by his wife Susan and children Molly (John) Tripp, Lisa (Todd) Fedora and Marc McLennan; grandchildren Cayley, Joshua, Zoe, Jonathan, Winston, Jackson, Normandy and Charlie Tripp; Danika and Lukas Fedora; Haley and Naomi McLennan and step-grandchildren Chelsea and Jordan Fedora.
Visitation: Sunday, October 25th from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. in Dougherty Funeral Home in Duluth and continuing on Monday from 10:00 until the 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 151 W. Linden St. in Duluth Heights. Burial will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30th in St. Michael's Cemetery, Iron River, WI.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, National Processing Center, P.O. Box 758541, Topeka, KA 66675-8541, the Salvation Army, 215 S. 27th Ave. W. Duluth, or a memorial of your choice. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. 2nd Street, (218) 727-3555.
