John Sorlie

John "Orville" Sorlie, 80 of Viewcrest formerly of W. Morgan St. died Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Viewcrest Health and Rehab Center with his family by his side. John was born April 16, 1935 in Duluth to John and Christine Sorlie. He was raised in Arnold, graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1953. He worked as a carpenter and was founder of Sorlie Acoustic Ceiling Tile Inc. He also served in the Army National Guard. John married Arlene (Larum) Hanson in 1959. John was a long time member of the former Arnold Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed. He was a member of the Turtle Patrol Snowmobile Club and he and Arlene enjoyed going to the casino.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Christine; stepsons, Don and Gary Hanson; grandson, Hunter Hanson and his wife, Arlene in 2014.
John is survived by his sons, Brian (Holly) Sorlie, Bruce (Joanne) Hanson and Rick (Cyndi) Hanson; grandchildren, Jody, Laura, Carrie, Kim, Zach, Erin, Carlie, Shelby, Cody and Chase; 14 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren; sister, Clarice (Ken Johnson) Turcotte and numerous nieces and nephews.
John's family would like to thank the staff at Viewcrest and Todd from hospice for their loving care of John.
Visitation will begin Saturday at 10am with services at 11am at Family of God Lutheran Church, 4097 Martin Rd., Duluth, MN. Memorials are preferred and may be directed to Family of God Lutheran Church or Waters of Life Lutheran Church, 6221 Rice Lake Rd., Duluth, MN.
