John Roy Tanner, 65, passed away surrounded by his family at St. Luke's Hospital on Wednesday, January 17,2018 due to a brain injury from a fall. John was born August 25, 1952 in Duluth Minnesota to Roy and Alda Tanner. He graduated from East High School and went on to graduate from UMD. John married the love of his life Barb (Gallant) on April 27,1985. He was retired from WLSSD in Duluth where he spent most of his working career. John and Barb lived in Wrenshall for twenty-five years and John served as a City Counselor from 1999 to 2015. John was a Mason and in his younger years he was very active in DeMolay and the Boy Scouts where he attained the rank of Eagle Scout. John and his whitticisms will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Alda Tanner; father-in-law, Lyle Gallant; mother and father-In-Law, June and Tony Cozzi. John is survived by his wife, Barb; son, Shawn (Jennifer) Gallant; grandchildren, Michael (25), Heather (21), Ashton (18) and Mason Gallant (9); sisters, Sandra Langguth and Sharon (Butch) Carey; and numerous, nieces, nephews and extended family members. A special thank you to sister-in-law’s, Mary Stevens and Sue Modeen for being a great support to the family. Memorial Service will be 11AM Saturday, January 27, 2018 with visitation one-hour prior, in the Dougherty Funeral Home 600 E 2nd Street, Duluth, MN 55805.
