John Corser Wahlsten, 68, of Lakeside, died Wednesday, November 28, 2012 in his home after a lengthy illness. John was born February 7, 1944 in Tower, MN to Hans and Ethel Corser. His father Hans was killed in action in WW II. His mother Ethel met and married Robert Wahlsten, who adopted John, and they moved to Duluth. John graduated from Duluth Central High School and later joined the 148th Air National Guard, working as carpenter until his retirement.
John enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and four-wheeling; he was an expert marksman with both a pistol and rifle, shooting in many tournaments.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hans; brother Rudy and his mother, Ethel.
John is survived by his wife, Sue (Churchill), whom he married on June 18, 2001; father, Robert E. Wahlsten; children, Jennifer (Tim) Wahlsten, Joel (Pat) Wahlsten and Jeremy (Robin) Churchill; brothers, Bruce (Joann) Wahlsten and Ronald (Joan) Wahlsten; grandchildren, Madison, Allison, Hunter, Hayden and Sally; sister-in-law, Susan Wahlsten.
Visitation will be Sunday from 3-6pm in the Dougherty Funeral Home.
Services will be 11am Monday at St. Lawrence Church, 2410 Morris Thomas Rd. Burial will be at Park Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral home, 600 E 2nd St., (218) 727-3555.
