June Edwards

June M. Edwards, 92 formerly of Duluth Heights, died Thursday, Jan. 2nd at Diamond Willow, Lester Park, with her family by her side.  June was born May 6, 1927 in Duluth to James and Esther Nordland.  She was a 1945 graduate of Duluth Central. June met John Edwards and they were married on Oct. 26, 1946 in Duluth.  She worked as a lunch lady at Lowell Elementary and at Cox Bakery and the YMCA.

June was a member of St. Joseph’s in Duluth Heights; she taught religious education, was a member of the funeral lunch committee and its Plus 55 Club.  She was an Election Judge, a member of TOPS, the PTA, AFS, Duluth Heights Community Club; was a Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader; she enjoyed knitting, reading, bowling; she and John enjoyed taking bus trips, but most of all, June loved being with her family.

The family would like to thank the staff at Diamond Willow in Lester Park and St. Croix Hospice for their loving care for June and her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Esther; siblings, Florence Backstrom, David and James Nordland; grandson Jonathan Rasanen; great granddaughter, Stella June Geraghty; children, Barbara Jean (at birth) Daniel, Joseph and her husband, John.

June is survived by her children, Nancy (Douglas) Killian of Gilbert, MN; Michael (Ann Marie) Edwards of Duluth; John (Diane) Edwards of Duluth; Kathy (Steve) Rasanen of Bella Vista AR and Lorrie (Tim) Smith of Duluth;  daughter in law, Cheryl Edwards of Cloquet; her brother Robert Nordland of Duluth; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren, plus twins on the way, and many nieces and nephews

Visitation will be from 5-7pm with 6:30pm Rosary Wednesday, Jan 8th in the Dougherty Funeral Home.  Visitation will continue from 10am to the 11am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence Church, 2410 Morris Thomas Rd. Duluth.  Memorials may be made to your local library.
