June Sundquist

June 29, 1918 — September 16, 2012

June Florence Sundquist was born to Nels and Christine Turnquist on June 29, 1918 in Duluth, Minn. and passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 16, 2012 in Duluth. She graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1936 and went on to graduate from the Duluth Business School. In 1938 she married the love of her life, John E. Sundquist, and they were blessed with 65 years of happiness together. June loved baking and was often featured for her recipes in the Duluth News Tribune. She was an active partner with her husband in running Sanitary Plumbing Co., and they worked hard together to create a good life for their three children. She was the President of the Plumbing Auxiliary for the State of Minnesota, and was an active participant in that organization for many years. Summers were spent at their cabin on Island Lake, and after retirement, they enjoyed the warm winters and the many friends they made in Tucson, Arizona. June was an avid volley ball player, and enjoyed playing in leagues for many years. June was a good Christian, had a wonderful sense of humor, and was a very social person. At the age of 10, she traveled to Sweden with her Mother for a three month stay at her Grandparents farm there, and she loved sharing the story of meeting Albert Einstein at the Chicago railroad station where he gave her an ice cream cone. She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Olga, Ruth Nordstrom, and Arthur Turnquist; her husband, John; and two grandchildren, Nathan and April. She is survived by her children, Kenneth (Sally); Joan (Rollie) Hoch; and Larry (Joey); grandchildren Donald, Troy, Amy, Jamie, Stacie, John, and Paul, their spouses, and many great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the memory care unit at Edgewood Vista for the love and support they provided her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Alzheimer's Foundation of America, or to the Shriner's Hospital. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E.
