Katharine Brown Coventry, 104, of Duluth, died Monday, December 19, 2016 at her residence. She was born to Helen (Goodale) and Edward Bangs Brown in St. Vincent Hospital, New York City, NY on November 23, 1912. She grew up in Scarsdale, NY, was graduated from St. Faith’s Preparatory School, Saratoga Springs, NY, and attended Antioch College, Yellow Springs, Ohio. Her marriage to William E. Wahl, in 1933, brought her to Eau Claire, WI. He preceded her in death on January 2, 1954. Their family, twin daughters and a son were raised in Eau Claire.
In 1957, she was married to Dr. William Dean Coventry of Duluth. As a long time Episcopalian, she was an active member of St. Paul’s Church and the Episcopal Diocese of Minnesota, serving in many capacities. Her secular activities included the Red Cross, Eau Claire Junior League, Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra, St. Luke’s Hospital, Northwood Children’s Home, St. Louis County Medical Auxiliary, St. Louis Heritage and Arts Center, Archdeacon Gilfillan Center, Emeritus College, Lake Superior Writers, Tischer Creek Garden Club, University for Seniors, Duluth Superior Community Foundation, and the St. Louis Medical Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, her husband, William Coventry, and a sister Barbara Blalock.
Katharine is survived by her two daughters, Sandra Sheeline and Sibyl Hanson, both of Sun Valley, ID; her son William D. Wahl of Bellevue, WA; her step-daughters Dale Jerome of Ann Arbor, MI, Barbara Loken of Grand Junction, CO and Caroline Morgan of Santa Fe, NM; eight grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
Memorial Service: 2 PM Friday, January 6, 2017 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1710 East Superior St. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.
