Katharine Stonemark, 97, Duluth, Minn., died peacefully on Nov. 17 2019, surrounded by family.
Katharine was a devoted wife and mother of four. She worked with her husband, Willard, on building business interests and various endeavors as they raised their children together. Having come from humble beginnings, Willard and Katharine worked hard to provide for their family. Sacrifices they made created opportunities for future generations. Their hard work allowed them to enjoy their later life together which included many summers the entire family could enjoy at their Island Lake property.
Katharine was very involved in her church for many years. She participated in bake sales, the Lydia Circle, and prayer chain.
Kay, as her friends called her, enjoyed baking. She loved to make cookies and sweetbreads. She also enjoyed gardening. Her mornings usually began with a pot of coffee and crossword puzzle while the news played in the background. Over the years, Kay was involved with multiple card clubs. Her favorite games to play were Bridge and Cribbage.
A beloved grandmother, Katharine doted over her grandchildren and their children. She always had cookies and candy to give to the little ones and support and advice for the elder ones.
Katharine was preceded in death by her husband of 50 plus years, Willard; and son Todd; and siblings Frances Chart, Barbara Brecke, Ray Buccanero, and Ronald Buccanero.
She is survived by sister Marilyn (Ronald) Johnson; children Thomas, Wayne (Bonnie), Connie Lepak; and numerous grandchildren; and great grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Mount Olive English Lutheran Church in Duluth.
