Katherine Young

Katherine Ann "Kay" Young, 88, of Duluth, died Saturday, March 1, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital. A lifelong Duluth resident, she was born September 24, 1925 to Alexander J. and Katherine (Cosgrove) Nowak. Kay was a 1943 graduate of Duluth Girl's Cathedral. She married John Earl Young and was a homemaker. She was a past member of the former St. Anthony Catholic Church and currently attended St. Benedict's Catholic Church. Kay had worked at Polinsky Medical Rehabilitation Center for 20 years, and was a volunteer at the Benedictine Health Center for 20 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Howard, Edward and Robert Fryke, and James and Joseph Nowak; her husband John in 1986; and her daughter Mary Kay Scheper in 1995. Kay is survived by her sons: John (Cammie) of Duluth, Jeffrey of Fargo, ND and Robert (Laura) of Duluth; 12 grandchildren: Beth Anne (Jeff) Ornell, Kathleen (Jeff) Brenna, Amy (Nate) Dolentz, Jeffrey Young, Kristie Young, Kathielee Young, Megan (DJ) Jurek, Lisa (Joe) Moore, Nicole Scheper, Alec Young, John Young and Sarah Young; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation: 5-7 PM Tuesday at Dougherty Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 AM Wednesday at St. Benedict's Catholic Church, 1419 St. Benedict's Drive.
