Kathy Miner passed away June 22, 2018, unexpectedly from heart failure. She was born on August 18, 1932, in St. Paul, Minnesota, and grew up in Minneapolis and Duluth, attending Central High School. Her father Robert Fitzgerald was a lineman and her mother Agnes (Moede) retired as a bank officer. She was a beloved wife, mother, aunt, and friend—open-hearted, kind, and honest—and will be sorely missed.
One of her gifts was creating a welcoming home for her family and friends as a homemaker most of her life. She was a gardener, artist, and lover of nature. A first job was as a human computer. She also worked as a sales clerk at a Duluth gift store called the Candelot. Kathy had type 1 diabetes for nearly 60 years and owed her success in living with this disease due to her own disciplined and constant care.
She is survived by her husband, William Palmer Miner; children, Cynthia (Bill) Schuette, William Benjamin (Patricia) Miner; grandchildren, Calvin, Chrystal, and Victoria Miner and Daniel and Jacob Schuette; brothers, Michael Fitzgerald (Marion) and Patrick (Maria); many well-loved nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 11AM on Saturday, June 30, in the Dougherty Funeral Home 600 E 2nd Street, Duluth, MN 55805.
Gifts can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
