Kathryn Borash

June 25, 1921 — August 10, 2014

Kathryn "Kay" June Borash, 93, of Duluth died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014 at ViewCrest Health Center.
She was born June 25, 1921 in West Eveleth, Minn., the daughter of Michael and Esther (Heglund) Moore, the second oldest of six children.
Kay graduated from Eveleth High School in 1939, and moved to Detroit, Mich., where she worked at a local bank. She eventually moved to Duluth when the rioting in Detroit made it unsafe. After moving to Duluth, she worked at Oreck's Department Store, as fashion was always an important part of her life, even up until age 93.
She married the love of her life, Leo John Borash, in 1950, and they celebrated 60 years of marriage before Leo passed away March 22, 2011.
Kay loved playing cards, bowling, completing all of the puzzles in the daily newspaper, as she was convinced this would keep her mind sharp, cooking and baking, and collecting antiques and cut glass. She was a member of St. Raphael's Church and involved in the Pike Lake Community.
Also, Kay loved living in different locations. The number of moves is uncountable, but she thoroughly enjoyed every one. She was Leo's partner in managing the Colonial Twins Apartment buildings, the Chateau Du Lac and The Pines. At age 70, she convinced Leo to make an adventurous move from Duluth to the Loring Park Condominium Complex in downtown Minneapolis. They resided there until their only grandchild, Mindy, was born in Duluth, and they moved back to be adoring grandparents. Above all, she mostly enjoyed being a wife to Leo, a mother to Cady, and an amazing grandmother to Mindy.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents Michael and Esther Moore; her husband Leo; sisters Dorothy Urbiaha of West Eveleth, Minn., Marlene Peterson of Menlo Park, Calif., and brother Tom Moore of Gilbert, Minn.
She is survived by her daughter Cady Clark; son-in-law Gary Halgren; grandchild Mindy Clark, Miami, Fla., who was truly the shining star in Kays life; her sister Dayis Begich of West Eveleth; brother Merlin Moore of Forbes, Minn., and many nieces and nephews. She had special friends in the Clark family.
VISITATION: 10 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, in St. Raphael's Church, 5779 Seville Road. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Royalton, Minn. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, Duluth. 218-727-3555.
