Katie Hazel McCurley passed away on September 26 at the University of MN Hospital, with her mother at her side. Katie was born in Duluth on September 16, 1977 to Samie and Carol McCurley. She attended Piedmont, Washington, and Duluth Central High School from which she graduated. Katie was a loving, caring mother to her son, Zevin. All of her plans and aspirations revolved around him. She had a very close and enduring relationship with her brother. Katie was a compassionate and doting daughter. She maintained a positive attitude through a lifetime of chronic illness, and faced her challenges with grace. Katie enjoyed pop culture and going to nightclubs in Minneapolis. She was stylish and could expertly handle "Killer" high heels. Katie enjoyed decorating her apartment and kept an inviting home.
Katie was preceded in death by her father Samie, and her grandparents Francis and Hazel Organ.
Katie is survived by her mother Carol, son Zevin Lewis, brother Zevin McCurley, and her dear auntie Millie Thomas.
Private graveside service were held in Forest Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home. 600 East 2nd Street, Duluth, MN, 55805. 218-727-3555.
